The European tradition of making bittersweet liqueurs--called amari in Italian--has been around for centuries. But it is only recently that these herbaceous digestifs have moved from the dusty back bar to center stage in the United States, and become a key ingredient on cocktail lists in the country’s best bars and restaurants. Lucky for us, today there is a dizzying range of amaro available—from familiar favorites like Averna and Fernet-Branca, to the growing category of regional, American-made amaro. Amaro is the first book to demystify this ever-expanding, bittersweet world, and a must-have for any home cocktail enthusiast or industry professional. Starting with a rip-roaring tour of bars, cafés, and distilleries in Italy, amaro’s spiritual home, Brad Thomas Parsons—author of the James Beard and IACP Award–winner Bitters—will open your eyes to the rich history and vibrant culture of amaro today. With more than 100 recipes for amaro-centric cocktails, DIY amaro, and even amaro-spiked desserts, you’ll be living (and drinking) la dolce vita.

Bovine anaplasmosis is an infectious non-contagious disease transmitted mainly by ticks or fomites contaminated with Anaplasma marginale. Once cattle have developed the disease it can be treated with antibiotics or chemotherapy, although with partial success. Still, there is no effective and global prophylactic method available, mainly because of variability and diversity showed by different A. marginale strains distributed worldwide. In this regard, several proteins have been proposed as immunogens, MSPs, OMPs, Type IV Secretion System Proteins and some other hypothetical proteins, which have been chosen either by experimental evidence or more recently by genome-based analysis. So far, the results suggest that a single molecule will not be enough to trigger a protective immune response in the host, so it is necessary to identify other proteins or epitopes with adequate immunological properties, a process in which omics tools have potential. In order to develop a vaccine against bovine anaplasmosis, it has been proposed by the use of combinations of molecules, exposure formats and application protocols to provide an effective control of the disease.

Leveraging Synergies Between Refining and Petrochemical Processes provides a detailed description of the interfaces and connections between crude oil refining and petrochemicals. It offers a view of global and regional markets and economic opportunities for synergies between these sectors. Features: Shows a global and regional market outlook for crude oil refining and petrochemical sectors Explores economic and market opportunities for taking advantage of the synergies between both sectors Analyzes the technical challenges and opportunities that come with these synergies Gives an outlook and prediction of what companies will be able to achieve in the mid-term future Provides introductory and explanatory material as well as in-depth insight into future technology and market developments This book serves as a reference for professionals in chemical engineering, oil and gas engineering, and industrial chemistry. It aims to help engineers and industry professionals understand the challenges and the potential benefits of developing expansion or optimization projects that may bridge the gap between refining and petrochemicals.

Corporate finance is the area of finance that studies the determinants of firms' values, including capital structure, financing, and investment decisions. Although there are several excellent texts in corporate finance, this is the first to focus on the theoretical foundations of the subject in a consistent and integrated way at the Ph.D. level. In addition to a textbook for advanced graduate students, it can also serve as a general reference to researchers and sophisticated practitioners. The material presented is carefully selected with an eye to what is essential to understanding the underlying theory, ensuring that this text will remain useful for years to come. The book is divided into three parts. The first section presents the basic principles of valuation based on the absence of arbitrage, including a discussion of the determinants of the optimal capital structure based on the seminal results of Modigliani and Miller. The second section discusses the implications of agency problems and information asymmetries to capital structure, giving particular attention to payout policy and to debt contract design. The concluding portion presents different ways of restructuring capital, including going public, going private using stock repurchases or leveraged buyouts, and mergers and acquisitions. Each chapter includes exercises that vary in difficulty, with suggested solutions provided in an appendix. This book will assuredly be the standard doctoral- and professional-level explication of corporate finance theory and its appropriate applications.

Background and Aims:About half of acute stroke patients treated with mechanical thrombectomy (MT) do not show clinical improvement despite successful recanalization. Early arterial reocclusion (EAR) may be one of the causes that explain this phenomenon. We aimed to analyze the predictors and clinical relevance of EAR after successful MT.Methods:A consecutive series of patients treated with MT from a prospective single-center acute stroke reperfusion registry were retrospectively reviewed. Specific inclusion criteria for this analysis were 1/ successful recanalization after MT (mTICI=2b-3) and 2/ the availability of a pre-treatment perfusion-CT and follow-up MRI. EAR was defined as TIMI=0-1 in the follow-up Angio-MRI. Multivariate regression models were used to analyse the predictors of reocclusion, as well as its association with infarct growth, final infarct volume and clinical outcome at 90 days (ordinal distribution of the modified-Rankin scale scores). Results:Overall, 197 patients fulfilled inclusion criteria, from whom 11 (6%) suffered EAR. In univariate analysis, EAR was associated with non-cardioembolic etiology (p=0.04), better pre-treatment collaterals (p=0.045), and recanalization beyond 4.5h from stroke onset (p=0.05). According to outcome variables, EAR was associated with greater infarct growth (p=0.001), greater final infarct volume (p=0.002) and worse clinical outcome (p=0.019). In multivariate analysis controlled by confounders (including age, baseline NIHSS/glucose/collaterals, cardioembolism and time to recanalization), EAR was independently associated to worse clinical outcome (OR=4.6; 95%CI=1.3-15.8; p=0.016).Conclusions:Although uncommon, EAR might hamper the benefits of successful recanalization after MT. Further study is warranted to assess strategies aimed to prevent this complication.

The increase of air traffic rates registered in the recent years and the forecast for the next twenty years, has encouraged the necessity of developing new alternatives to manage the airspace. For this reason, several European and American organizations have been studying the idea of introducing new Air Traffic Management (ATM) systems based on four-dimensional trajectories. The four-dimensional trajectory management consists in establishing far in advance a time-based sequence for all aircraft converging to a specific point. The main idea is providing each aircraft with a time constraint to get a specific merging point. As a result, it is allowed to the aircraft to perform autonomous flight in order to achieve this merging point in the required time. In case the aircraft is not able to arrive to the merging point at the required time, it is assigned a new time of arrival; this means the aircraft has to perform Holding Patterns (HP) procedures, which is traduced to more fuel consumed, more emissions produced and several issues related to airlines and airport delays. A new generation of avionics systems related to navigation and flight management is emerging in order to support precision trajectories based on waypoints composed by latitude, longitude, altitude and a fourth dimension represented by the time. The purpose of this project is to design, simulate and test the functions of a Flight Management System (FMS) in order to follow automatically four-dimensional trajectories. This is achieved by controlling the aircraft airspeed, altitude, heading and vertical speed in order to arrive to the merging point in the specified time. The system receives data from the aircraft and computes new control parameters based on mathematical equations and prediction trajectories algorithms. Additional features has been added to the FMS-4D, such as the capability of predicting the arrival time taking into account previous flight parameters and speed/altitude constrains. Finally, a testing phase is performed using a flight simulator in order to obtain the performance and results of the designed system.
