A lyrically written memoir showing the growth of a writer and his unique perceptions of the 1950s, 60s and beyond. Echoing the erratic shape of remembrance, Kevin Ireland's second volume of memoirs is 'derived from impressions, conversations, anecdotes and poems, and its vague focus is a trip to Eastern Europe', which he took by chance in 1959. Leading directly and haphazardly towards and away from this single happening - leaping from London to Bulgaria to New Zealand and back - it explores the process of recollection itself. Outlining Kevin's experiences of friends, love and work - in such diverse places as a 'translation polishing' office in Bulgaria and the 'revisionists' department of The Times - this book shows the growth of a writer and his unique perceptions of the 1950s, 60s and beyond.

Business Calculus: Backward and Forward presents calculus lessons "backward"--from definite integrals to limits to derivatives to indefinite integrals. This approach first introduces the concept of area, which is more intuitive for students, before advancing to the concept of slope. Additionally, the text features exercises and problems that are exclusively business related. All solutions to odd-numbered problems are included, as well as answers to even-numbered problems. In Unit I, students learn integration in order to find the area between curves, using linear, quadratic, cubic, and exponential functions. Unit II focuses on determining limits. Students then learn how Riemann Sums can be used to approximate areas. In Units III and IV, students learn the Power Rule for taking derivatives and then learn to identify curve properties such as slope, concavity, relative and absolute extrema, and inflection points. Unit V incorporates the Product and Quotient Rules, the Chain Rule, and derivatives of transcendental functions. The final unit addresses implicit differentiation, related rates, integration by substitution, and a return to integration with indefinite integrals. Review material is included throughout the text to assist students in revisiting previously learned material and support mastery of new concepts. Featuring a class-tested, innovative approach, Business Calculus is an ideal resource for courses in applied mathematics for business. Michel Mallenby is an adjunct assistant professor in the Department of Mathematics at Creighton University. She holds a Ph.D. in business, M.A. in accounting, M.S. in mathematics, plus a B.S. in physics, math, and English. Her research has been published in Journal of Fuzzy Mathematics, Primus, and Siberian News. James W. Carlson is an associate professor in the Department of Mathematics at Creighton University. He holds a Ph.D. in mathematics from Purdue University with specialization in operator theory.

"Abandoned in Paris within a year, penniless and unaware of being a pawn in a game of international intrigue, Alexandra remained under Quisling's strict control for several more years. When her tumultuous life eventually took her to China, she married W. George Yourieff, who supported her efforts to recall and analyze her years as Quisling's wife. A further tide of events saw the Yourieffs settled in California, and in 1980 they began a collaboration with the Norwegian-born historian and novelist Kirsten A. Seaver. The archives Seaver consulted in London and Oslo and at the Hoover Institution of Stanford University confirmed Alexandra's intensely personal, episodic recollections about an extraordinary life and provided the necessary connective tissue. They also revealed to Alexandra at long last the brutal story behind her lost years."--BOOK JACKET.
