offers a progression of poetic episodes that speaks to the challenges and joys of each and every day lived in God’s loving hands. Poet Burdella “Carmen” Turner has crafted this collection a firsthand reflection of her soul’s search for meaning and purpose in a cruel and seemingly pitiless world. From the agony of hitting rock bottom and needing direction and inspiration to the acknowledgment that if she is truly mindful of the difference that God makes in her life, only then can she live a spiritual life, she captures all that God means to her. Turner’s powerful poetry is transcendent, expressing more than words alone can say evoking deep emotion and then reflection upon the path that God leads us on in life.

Scientists investigating the interaction between the ocean and the atmosphere now believe that the drag coefficient, and the coefficients of heat transfer and moisture transfer at the sea surface, all increase with an intensification of the wind, reaching high values during a storm. This belief is based on the results of gradient and eddy correlation measurements in the air layer over the water, as weIl as on data concerning the effect of storms on the structure of the upper layer of the ocean and on the planetary atmospheric boundary layer. However, until recently it was impossible to explain just how the above coefficients depend on the wind velocity and to extrapolate this dependence into the region of hurricane velocities. Only by studying nonturbulent mechanisms of transfer, which play an important role dose to the surface of a stormy sea, and mechanisms of spray mediated transfer in particular, was it possible to proceed to a solution of this problem. This book presents the results of laboratory and field studies of the spray field in the air layer above the surface of a stormy sea. Since there is a dose correlation between the generation of spray and the breaking of wind waves, considerable attention is given to the analysis of data on the sea state during a storm. Su'ch data are of interest when solving a number of diverse theoretical and applied problems.

The report presents information developed in the course of a multi-year investigation of the need for shore protection and storm damage reduction. The study area was 8.6 miles of the Pacific coast, known as Ocean Beach, in the City of San Francisco, CA. The study area extended from Cliff House to Fort Funston. The beach portion of the study area is in the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, under the jurisdiction of the National Park Service. Facilities threatened with damage included the Great Highway, parking lots of the GGNRA, a buried storm and sewer water transport box, a sewer pumping plant and ultimately houses and businesses. The report records the Ocean Engineering, Economic, and Geotechnical studies used to formulate and analyze a variety of alternative measures, including structural seawalls and revetments, as well as beach and dune nourishment. The final analysis indicated that most of the study area, while not absolutely safe, had a low probability of erosion. In the one area with a possible federal interest, the sponsor was unable to agree to cost share at the time of the report. Therefore the study was terminated. The sponsor will pursue other measures not requiring federal cost sharing.

Since writing the previous edition of Storm Tactics Handbook, Lin and Larry have voyaged an additional 55,000 miles. This has taken them as far north as Norway, twice across the Atlantic, south to Argentina and into the Pacific, around Cape Horn contrary to the prevailing winds then on a North Pacfic circuit. With insights gained from these recent voyages, they have fully revised and expanded this text by more than 40% including seven completely new chapters – among them;

Lessons from Cape Horn,

An interview on storm survival and heaving to with the late Sir Peter Blake,

Heaving-to using a Gale Rider on 55 foot Morgan’s Cloud,

Adding Rudder Protection Stops.

Discussions on avoiding chafe, building and using storm staysails, choosing storm gear, when to deploy para-anchors, tactics for avoiding the worst areas of cyclonic storms and many more have been expanded to answer questions posed by readers and seminar attendees.

Being a Playboy bunny is every girls dream. Betty (Dyer) Miller found the world of Playboy to be a world full of glamour, glitz and excitement when she was chosen to be one of the very first Playboy bunnies when the Playboy Club opened in Cincinnati in 1964. Leaving the Playboy Club, she made many attempts at becoming a star. The story follows Betty as she invents many strange and unusual acts to achieve stardom. One act she attempted was being a snake dancer with her supposed boa constrictor, Sheila, which turned out to be a dangerous snake called an anaconda. We all know how fierce an anaconda can be. Another act found Betty being the Dancing Corpse, actually coming out of a casket and scaring a troop of African American cub scouts when she was doing publicity shots in a public park. This chapter is entitled Feets, Do Your Duty. Among her five husbands was celebrity Kenny Jones, who was a guitar player on the Midwestern Hayride - a popular television show that was telecast nationally. She had watched Kenny on the show for years, never dreaming that one day she would meet him and even marry him. What a thrill that had to have been. Being married to Kenny threw her into the world of top name performers like Kris Kristofferson and Johnny Paycheck who would jam with Kenny at a club called Whiteys in Cincinnati. Betty also narrowly escaped being one of the Cincinnatis Stranglers victims as she encountered him one night after leaving the Playboy Club. Her encounter with him is chilling and will have readers on the edge of their seats. Readers will be memorized by her story. Should Hollywood ever get hold of it, the life and times of Betty Miller would make and excellent and very entertaining movie.
