Paint coatings remain the most widely used way of protecting steel structures from corrosion. This important book reviews the range of organic paint coatings and how their performance can be enhanced to provide effective and lasting protection. The book begins by reviewing key factors affecting the success of a coating, including surface preparation, methods of application, selecting an appropriate paint and testing its effectiveness. It also discusses why coatings fail, including how they degrade, and what can be done to prevent these problems. Part two describes the main types of coating and how their performance can be enhanced, including epoxies, polyester, glass flake, fluoropolymer, polysiloxane and waterborne coatings. The final part of the book looks at applications of high-performance organic coatings in such areas as reinforced concrete, pipelines, marine and automotive engineering. With its distinguished editor and international team of contributors, High-performance organic coatings is a valuable reference for all those concerned with preventing corrosion in steel and other metal structures. Reviews the factors affecting the success of a coating Describes the main types of coating and how their performance can be enhanced, including epoxies, polyester and waterborne coatings Examines applications in such areas as reinforced concrete pipelines and marine engineering

ABSTRACT: This is an overview of polymer coating technology, which is a way for altering surface properties to meet performance requirement in variety of technical applications. Polymer coatings have been utilized for purposes of adhesion, barrier properties, scratch and abrasion resistance, chemical resistance, wettability, biocompatibility, etc. Different approaches have been developed and adopted for fabrication of protective organic coatings. A judicious choice of polymer, coating technique, and fabrication parameters may lead to high performance coatings with upgraded properties. Recently, polymer coatings have been successfully and frequently adopted for solar cell, lithium-sulfur batteries, membrane technology, Light-Emitting Diode, corrosion protection, packaging, and biomedical.

This book provides an accessible way to learn about organic coatings and finishing. The coating materials are considered here from the angle of chemical reactions and mechanisms of film formation. The examples and exercises provided in here will also help the reader achieve technical insights into the subject and obtain a deep understanding of the principles underlying the technology. This book also provides the reader with the basic knowledge and skills required for handling mixtures. As rheological technology has been widely used in research papers for academic exchange and solving technical problems on organic coatings and finishing, this book collects and compiles a number of reference works on rheological technology, demonstrating how to use it in organic coatings and finishing.

To spite a national trend toward renovation, restoration, and remodeling, construction products producers and their associations are not universally eager to publish recommendations for repairing or extending existing materials. There are two major reasons. First, there are several possible applications of most building materials; and there is an even larger number of different problems that can occur after products are installed in a building. Thus, it is difficult to produce recommendations that cover every eventuality. Second, it is not always in a building construction product producer's best interest to publish data that will help building owners repair their product. Producers, whose income derives from selling new products, do not necessarily applaud when their associations spend their money telling architects and building owners how to avoid buying their products. Finally, in the Building Renovation and Restoration Series we have a reference that recognizes that problems frequently occur with materials used in building projects. In this book and in the other books in this series, xv xvi Series Foreword Simmons goes beyond the promotional hyperbole found in most product literature and explains how to identify common problems. He then offers informed "inside" recommendations on how to deal with each of the problems. Each chapter covers certain materials, or family of materials, in a way that can be understood by building owners and managers, as well as construction and design professionals.
