It's 2481 AD. Phil is a jaded intergalactic shipper stranded out in space. Henry is an interstellar traveller with an invisible ship he can't uncloak. Rick is the stowaway who can fix both ships. All of them have a secret....REFRACTIONS is band slash featuring characters based on the guys from Def Leppard, quite the character based on Henry Rollins, and liberal doses of Highway Joe's utterly unique imagination.(Neither Rockfic Press nor Highway Joe are affiliated with Def Leppard or Henry Rollins. This book was written without the involvement of either. This book is a work of fiction.)

By the Rays of Light I understand its least Parts, and those as well Successive in the same Lines, as Contemporary in several Lines. For it is manifest that Light consists of Parts, both Successive and Contemporary; because in the same place you may stop that which comes one moment, and let pass that which comes presently after; and in the same time you may stop it in any one place, and let it pass in any other. For that part of Light which is stopp'd cannot be the same with that which is let pass. The least Light or part of Light, which may be stopp'd alone without the rest of the Light, or propagated alone, or do or suffer any thing alone, which the rest of the Light doth not or suffers not, I call a Ray of Light. Refrangibility of the Rays of Light, is their Disposition to be refracted or turned out of their Way in passing out of one transparent Body or Medium into another. And a greater or less Refrangibility of Rays, is their Disposition to be turned more or less out of their Way in like Incidences on the same Medium. Mathematicians usually consider the Rays of Light to be Lines reaching from the luminous Body to the Body illuminated, and the refraction of those Rays to be the bending or breaking of those lines in their passing out of one Medium into another. And thus may Rays and Refractions be considered, if Light be propagated in an instant. But by an Argument taken from the Æquations of the times of the Eclipses of Jupiter's Satellites, it seems that Light is propagated in time, spending in its passage from the Sun to us about seven Minutes of time: And therefore I have chosen to define Rays and Refractions in such general terms as may agree to Light in both cases.

It's been said that for any event, there are an infinite number of possible outcomes. Our choices determine which outcome will follow, and therefore all possibilities that could happen do happen across countless alternate realities. In these divergent realms, known history is bent, like white light through a prism -- broken into a boundless spectrum of what-might-have-beens. But in those myriad universes, what might have been...is what actually happened. THE CHIMES AT MIDNIGHT: In a continuum where Spock died during childhood, an Andorian named Thelin became Captain Kirk's stalwart friend and first officer. But at the moment of Khan's final defeat, history takes an even stranger turn, and the emerging potential of Project Genesis is revealed as the galaxy's greatest hope...and its most ominous threat. A GUTTED WORLD: Terrorist Kira Nerys -- from a Bajor that was never liberated -- may hold the key to winning a war that has engulfed half the galaxy. But with the Romulans and the Klingons at each other's throats, and the Federation pulled into the conflict, even victory may not bring salvation. BRAVE NEW WORLD: Dr. Noonien Soong's dream has been realized: androids are now woven inextricably into the fabric of the Federation, revolutionizing Starfleet and transforming the quality of humanoid life. But when Soong's long-missing breakthrough creation, Data, mysteriously resurfaces, civilization reaches a crossroads that could lead to a bright new future, or to ruin.

The Present Book Takes A Fresh Look At Gender And Feminist Perspectives Through The Novels Of The Three Women Writers Across The Globe, Namely Toni Morrison, Michèle Roberts And Anita Desai To Formulate A Comparative Model On The Theory Of Desire. The Psychoanalytical Model Of Research Does Not Offer Any Homogeneity Of Points Of View, Rather A Dialogical Perspective To Suggest Refractions Of Feminist Desire. As The Book Analyses In Detail Family And Community, Mother-Daughter And Father-Daughter Relationships, Along With Marital Relationship, It Also Discusses The Politics Of Gender Representation In Afro-American, British And Indian Cultures. The Author Begins With The Comparative Analysis Of The Male Gaze In The Three Cultures To Discuss The Growth And Development Of Feminist Resistance To The Patriarchal Texts And Subtexts There, And Then Goes On To Discuss The Works Of The Writers And The Stances Taken By Them. Drawing On The Theories Of The French Feminists Along With Jung S Ideas On Sacred Marriage And Deconstruction And Judith Butler S Dream Of Symmetry , The Analysis Foregrounds A New Historicity Which Is Distinctly Non-Linear And Discursive In The Writings Of Toni Morrison, Michèle Roberts And Anita Desai. The Book Is Definitely A Major Contribution To Comparative Literature And Gender Studies. It Will Be Useful For Postgraduate Students And Scholars Interested In Such Fields Of Study.

With contributions by researchers from India, Europe, North America and the Caribbean, In Translation – Reflections, refractions, transformations touches on questions of method and on topics – including copyright, cultural hybridity, globalization, identity construction, and minority languages – which are important for the disciplinary development of translation studies but also of interest to other fields as well, most notably comparative literature, cultural studies and world literature. The volume provides a forum for new voices to be heard alongside those of well-established scholars and for current concerns to express themselves, often focusing on practices in areas of the world other than Europe or North America, which have until now tended to dominate the field. Acknowledging difference and celebrating it, the contributions conceive of translation as a process which reconstitutes and transforms, which brings renewal and growth, an interaction in a new context, a new reading, a new writing.

Boys from Iowa and the Midwest grow tall, burly, and handsome in a way only Midwest boys can. Jay uses models (some professional, some amateur) to transport the viewer to the "Midwest" of innocence, purity, and the wholesomeness for which Middle America is known. It is the artist's desire to portray the Midwest as a unique place where one can find men doing farm chores during the day and going to a rave at night. A place that, with the Midwest stamp on it, gives you the boy next door who scores the touchdown, dates the prom queen (though is secretly in love with the tight end) and has a heart bigger than the whole state.

The essays explore Sufism as it developed in the Indian subcontinent, including translations of previously unavailable texts, and revealing unexpected insights into the lives, practices, and teachings of Indian Muslims over nearly a thousand years. They also trace remarkable moments in the history of Muslim engagement with Indian religious and cultural practices. This includes not only Muslim participation in Indian art and literature, but also the extraordinary role that Sufis have played in the practice of yoga. Employing new approaches to religious studies that avoid essentialism and ideological concepts of religion, and shorn of unnecessary jargon, these compelling essays will be easily accessible to a larger audience.
